These links to online tutorials will provide you with basic instructions for techniques and projects. Although we did not create them, we think they are a great resource and expand our creative community.

Free Patterns and Tutorials

There are a lot of projects listed on sewing machine manufactorers' websites, so check those, too.

About.com Sewing - this amazing resource is almost overwhelming. I've used this website to find tutorials and patterns.

Amy Butler - I'm a fan of her fabric (funky designs) but she also has some free patterns on her website. I love looking through the pictures on her inspiration link!

Blue Bird Studio - very cute headband. The only change I made was pressing the ends up 1/4" before step 2.
Checker Distributors - a lot of free small project and quilt patterns from this wholesale distributor; click on each company to get a list of their freebies (including pictures). They may take a loooong time to download!

Craft Elf - some good stuff here, including simple projects.

Coats and Clark - plenty of free projects including accessories, home decor, and seasonal.

Fat Quarter Shop - free quilt patterns!

The Giving Flower - free purse organizer pattern/tutorial.

Heather Bailey - some good free patterns including headbands, pincushions, quilts, and more. It's a busy website, so look to the right and scroll down. These are only for home use!

JoAnn Fabrics - Lots of different ideas.

J. Caroline Creative - Wonderful, wonderful free patterns, projects, and how-to's. I've taken their general ideas and made them my own. I LOVE their idea to make fabric-covered magnets using the button kits! I embroidered (small) letters and made sets of personalized magnets for my friends.

KWIK Sew - a can cozy and a clutch purse. I made the can cozy but I think this is the pattern that my printer didn't print to full size, so I had to make some printer changes before I printed it. Check measurements. I then made some adjustments so the back fabric comes around the top of the front fabric so it almost looks like piping is at the top and the bottom. I did this with a compass (see, sewing is math!) by making the front fabric an inch smaller ( 1/2" smaller to top and bottom) than the back. Play with it, though... if I get my act together, my local coffee shop wants to sell them. They are cute when embroidered.

Made By Rae - cute purse pattern - The Buttercup Bag

Oh, Fransson - lots of patterns for various projects - scroll down to "Free Pattern Downloads" - ONLY for home sewing and non-commercial use.

Pink Chalk Studio - a water bottle carrier tutorial (scroll down to the bottom of her home page) and a few other things.

Prim Dritz - a variety of projects available.
Robert Kaufman - lots of free patterns. Mostly for quilters, but some cute bags and a teepee!
Sew Ritzy-Titzy - my favorite flower. A popular project in the studio.
Simplicity - cute, simple projects. You may have to create an account to get to the project.
Sulky - a variety of projects.
Suzanne's Crazy For Collars - really cute covered button necklace. Easy and no-sew.
TipNut - I found some great tutorials here. I especially like the car organizer.

That Darn Cat - She has some tutorials/patterns for a quilted wallet and adding ribbon to jeans. It looks like she'll be adding more.
