I love everything about sewing - from the mechanical to the artistic - and enjoy combining the practical with the imaginative. I've been behind a sewing machine since I was a child - thanks to a mother who worked as a professional tailor. Being around my mom taught me the importance of detail and quality construction and the willingness to take risks.
I have spent my professional life teaching public speaking and interpersonal communication courses. So I've taken what I've learned in the college classroom and use it in the studio.
I'm a Trained Sewing Instructor (through the Sewing and Craft Alliance) and in 2004, I began designing and sewing my own line of handbags called ms. elaineous.

Melissa St. Clair - instructor |
Melissa St.Clair taught herself to sew almost 20 years ago. She has always enjoyed making clothing for herself and her family and is very enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge and passion for sewing with children and adults. Melissa became a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor in the fall of 2004; she became certified to teach "Fit" in the summer of 2010. She lives in Painted Post, NY with her husband and two children.

Ellen Reilly - instructor |
Ellen has been quilting for more than 20 years and has won awards for piecing and machine quilting. She stays current with new trends by attending national shows and doing continuing education work at the Machine Quilters Expo each year. She lives on the top of a hill in Campbell with her husband and cats.
Ellen has taught numerous workshops and classes as a professional and applies that knowledge to quilting. She is the owner of Finger Lakes Quilt Works in Campbell.

Joanne Marshall - instructor |
Joanne has been sewing for more than 28 years. She started out in clothing construction and in 1999 moved onto machine embroidery. Joanne later expanded skills to include digitizing her own designs. In 2000, Joanne began quilting and in January 2008 purchased a short arm and frame for quilting with a friend.
Joanne has taught embroidery and digitizing classes at the Viking Sewing Gallery in Ithaca, NY; she has also taught Embird embroidery software around the country and on several sewing cruises.
Joanne loves to combine her interests in quilting and digitizing to create her own quilting designs to use on smaller items. She hopes to bring some classes that will incorporate machine embroidery and quilting and possibly some classes on the Embird software suite.
Joanne recently purchased the Accuquilt cutting system this year and plans to bring her expertise to Sew You Can!

Melissa Maxim - instructor |
Melissa Maxim has been a creative person since her high school years in Williamsport, PA, where she performed in the nationally acclaimed Marching Millionaires Band as a lead flutist. She received a Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design from Rochester Institute of Technology, where she started crafting polymer clay and other types of personal jewelry. Melissa has been doing design and photography on the side, together with her husband, since their years together at RIT. Most of her time and attention has been devoted to raising their five children. She blogs, sells her work, and makes her home in Painted Post, NY.

Wilma Coats - instructor |
Wilma started sewing 43 years ago when she took tailoring classes in school. She discovered that she loved it; once she settled down and started a family, Wilma couldn't get enough creative outlets. She later joined the quilt guild and a sewing circle and learned to quilt. From this same sewing circle, Wilma learned to hand embroider; she was soon on to knitting and cross stitching. When Janome came out with embroidery machines, Wilma just had to have one and became proficient at machine embroidery. She now has a short arm quilting machine and frame and works closely with her friend Joanne. Both have become proficient at free motion quilting. When Wilma is sharing her love of creative expression, "...it makes my heart sing."
