Fast and Fun Projects

Fast and Fun projects are available online at some of my favorite websites. These are not my patterns/tutorials. Because I respect the designer's creation, I will not (and should not) print and distribute them. So, if you would like to make them during a Fast and Fun time, please PRINT the pattern/tutorial, gather your goods, and come in to the studio (you can also call to reserve you space).

Fees will be based on how much assistance you need with the project (they start at $3.35 per hour and go up to $25 per hour). Keep in mind that I've made some of these and I've NOT made some of these.

I've highlighted good beginner projects in gray.

Oven Mitt - great project for beginners

This is a great pattern (and will introduce you to a handy little product called InsulBrite). If you have some time, check out other fun stuff on the website (skiptomylou). She has a really cute Fabric Notebook Cover Pattern for $1.99!

Oven Mitt and Pot Holders - great project for beginners A little different than the pattern above.
Pompom Scarf I may have to make one of these! JoAnn Fabrics sells little pompom fringe by the yard!
The Ten-Minute Headband This is a favorite studio project. Super easy!
Ipod Case The first time I made this I followed the directions ... bad idea... I couldn't sew it together. I've revised the order to make it easier to assemble. Keep in mind that you'll have to adjust the size to fit your particular Ipod. So bring in the dimensions.
The Beat-Up Binder Make-Over We all have those ugly three-ring binders that are coming apart. But who can throw them away? Make them over with this tutorial.
Custom Fabric Luggage Tag & Fabric Luggage Tags for Business Cards

Another great little project. I recommend that you use Printed Treasures (available at JoAnn Fabrics) rather than ironing muslin to freezer paper.

Ribbon Luggage Tags These are super-cute and would make great gift tags, too. It's a downloadable PDF pattern (from JoAnn Fabrics).
Car Visor CD Holder OK, I DID make this and L-O-V-E it. It makes my seven-year-old Corolla seem new again!
Wrist Pin Cushion This basic wrist pin cushion is appropriate for a beginner.
Baby Bib with Pocket Make a baby bib and learn how to sew in some piping!
Calico Christmas Ornaments

These have a cute homespun look and can be made in about an hour (or so they claim!).

Merry & Bright Stockings Love the curly toe!
Elf Stockings Another curly toe!
Secret Pocket Fabric Eggs I love this idea - make eggs out of fabric and hide treats inside a secret pocket!
Shower Curtain

I'm in the process of making a shower curtain (not like this one, though). And yes, you could buy one for less $$, but will it match your bathroom?!

Remote Caddy This may not be "fast" but it sure looks fun!
Hexagonal Pillow Maybe I shouldn't call this "fast and fun"...because once again this project doesn't look fast but it sure looks fun. Reminds me of Morocco!
Basic Throw Pilllow - great for beginners When I first started sewing, this is what I made. They are simple and easy to make.
Amy Butler Hexagon Pillow I love Amy Butler fabric. Her patterns can sometimes be a bit tricky. But this looks fairly simple.
Bed Caddy Yeah, yeah...I know. Fun more than fast...
Wallets There are a few free patterns here including a wallet, passport holder, and purses.
Quilted Wallet This is a bit more advanced - no zipper, though.
French Market Tote This is a great looking tote bag designed with fabric patches. It's a great way to use scraps. I'd make it with home dec fabric for a sturdier tote (and interface it with some fusible horsehair). You could use lighterweight fabric, fuse some fusible fleece to it, then top-stitch - a great use for a twin needle. And it's probably more on the fun side than the fast side.
Phoebe Bag I've made some purses that look a lot like this. I love the shape!
Large Patchwork Bag It's a big bag! Click on their link to download the pattern.
Fabric Gift Bag Go green with a fabric gift bag!
More Gift Ideas Check out All People Quilt for more gift ideas!
Lots of free patterns! I have had a lot of fun checking out SewMamaSew's Handmade Holiday tutorials and patterns. I ran out of ink printing all the patterns of goodies I'd like to make. Start here and then click on "newer entries" to keep going through the month (there is a new category added every day). I recommend getting their newsletter. This is one of my FAVORITE websites - I read her blog...and I'm not a blog reader!
If you have more time, here are some more free patterns.
